Updates in social media platforms are something that can never stop. And this is important because these updates are usually done to improve users experience with the platform. Recently, WhatsApp is in news. Reportedly, WhatsApp is working on few updates which could launch anytime soon. In today’s article, I am going to talk about WhatsApp update under development.
Let’s jump right in
Latest WhatsApp update you must know
Recently, WhatsApp has started working on a number of features for both Android and iOS. Let’s take a look at each WhatsApp update
➽ Disappearing Mode
You must be aware of the Disappearing messages feature of WhatsApp but now it is planning to expand its ability. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook confirmed in an interview that WhatsApp is going to introduce a Disappearing mode which will allow you to disappear messages across all chat threads. You need to manually turn on the disappearing message feature for each chat currently. It allows messages to be deleted after a set period of time once you enable it. WhatsApp has not given any information regarding the timer option, whether users will get the timer option with the new disappearing mode.

➽ View once feature
Facebook CEO also confirmed that WhatsApp has planned to add a “view once” feature which will enable users to share media such as photos and videos that can be seen just once. This is similar to the disappearing photo or video feature of Instagram. So when you send someone a photo or video and it will disappear from the chat when the receiver has seen it. You have to turn on this feature manually because it can’t be turned on by default.
➽ Multiple-device support
This multiple device support feature is currently underway tests and it is now confirmed that it will be arriving soon. According to an online report, the support will be entering public beta “in the next month or two.” Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that the multiple-device support feature will not compromise the end-to-end encryption that the messaging app is offering all for personal chats.
Once you get this feature, it will allow you to log in to your WhatsApp account on more than one device at the same time. Once you log into your account from another device, your account will be automatically logged out of the previous device. As of now, you can only log into your account on a single device.
➽ Missed group calls
This is another feature that WhatsApp has tested on for months; it will allow you to join group calls later that you might have missed. In other words, if somebody invited you for a video call and you could not join it for some reasons, you will be able to join the call later if the call has not ended. This feature was previously spotted on beta version of Android in October 2020 and now WhatsApp is working on its iOS version.
➽ WhatsApp Read Later
According to some online reports, WhatsApp is also working on a “Read Later” feature. This feature is going to replace the Archived Chats Feature and will not bring back the archived chats on top of the messaging app. At present, when you archive a chat in WhatsApp, the app hides it in the Archive section and you don’t see it on the top of all the chats but when a new message arrives, the archived chat automatically pops up on the top of the screen. WhatsApp is going to eliminate these interruptions with this “Read Later” feature.
Wrapping it up
WhatsApp has recently faced too much backlash due to its controversial new privacy policy. But at the same time it is also improving its platform to give an enhanced user experience. Hence, it becomes important for the users to stay updated with these new features.
