However, before getting into Google Optimize, you must know its pros and cons. In today’s article, I am going to be truly honest. This will be a raw and honest article on Google Optimize pros and cons.

Let’s jump right into it

Pros of Google Optimize

Google Optimize Pros and Cons

In this section, I will describe Google Website Optimizer or for short-Google Optimize. Pros in each section which will help you decide if Google A/B testing is right for you.

Cost

First off, Google Optimize AB testing is free. Totally free. No in-app purchases, no hidden fees, all their functionality us up for grabs for anyone who has a Google account or is willing to create. And even after being free tool, Google optimize A/B testing also offers various conversion optimization tools. Such as A/B tests, multi-variate, redirect tests (also known as split URL test). Ease of use

It is really easy to use Google Optimize. Even a child over 12 years of age can set up an A/B experiment in Google Optimize under 20 minutes. After you are done inserting the link to the website you want to optimize with Google A/B testing and name your variants. You will be required to download a free Google Chrome extension that allows you to edit your website in live mode.

You can play around and change the colour, placement, opacity, and other parameters of each element during your website testing without any code needed by applying free Google Optimize Chrome Extention.  Google does not involve a code editor along with a visual editor you saw for those who might need more customized option.

Reports

This is another pros of Google Optimize-Google Analytics native integration. A Google Optimize progress bar at the top of the web page of you’re A/B testing process does two things. Help you navigate your Google A/B testing much easier. And hint that you will need to link your Google Optimize account with Google Analytics at some point.

An exceptional Google Optimize benefit is the ability and ease with which you can analyse reports in greater depth using Google Analytics. Having data from both your optimization and analytics tools in one place allows you to obtain a broad, comprehensive perspective on the status of your business. And while data in your reports don’t update in real-time, and will take up to 24 hours to appear in your dashboards, with Google Optimize you receive a luxury of high-quality reports at absolutely no cost. Cons

Now that you have seen the pros of Google Optimize, now it is time to go through the cons

No images

As Google Optimize is a free tool, it can’t store large amounts of data. Which means you can’t upload new images to be used in you’re A/B tests within the Google Optimize Platforms. And considering you can’t upload images to Google Optimize servers, you will need to use your own server or a third-party tool. The best way you can fight this con by uploading an image directly into the website’s CMS. And link to that internal file in your A/B testing.

Segments

Another con- inability to utilize Google Analytics segments. Segments are somewhat important when it comes to quality A/B testing. You would want to use that personalization functionality to make your customers feel special and appreciated, which is only accessible to those only who have premium Google Analytics 360 plan.

Limitations

This is a well-known and well-hated limitation. When you can run only 5 tests at the same time, while performing your Google Optimize A/B testing, both mobile and desktop. You can only have up to 3 goals, the number of variables in multi-variate testing is capped at 16, and if you’re code editor, the code length is limited to 10240 characters. To remove this limitation you would have to Google Analytics 360, or switch to another A/B testing platform. How to Set up Google My Business for your Brand?

Wrapping it up

Google Optimize is an amazing A/B testing platform. It is completely free. It’s easy to optimize with Google Analytics reports, and its user interface is as user-friendly as it gets. But it is not fine for everyone. If you are a large company that is serious for growth is looking for an exponential website optimization in the future. But if you are a small company that is just starting new, all of your data is already stored in Google Analytics.
